Bowls
Bowls
Since I was a child, bowls have an attraction on me , but I never made them myself. When I was about 29, years and years ago, I visited our neighbours, who had a very modern interior and they were discussing the new furniture they would buy. They wanted to get rid of all the student stuff they still had and they asked me questions what I would do. Would I buy armchairs or a sofa? What lamps would I like and where to put the table? I really tried to listen and to answer those questions…
But the only thing I saw, was the big BOWL on their little table.
It was so beautiful! I couldn’t keep my eyes off of it. On that moment I knew, that one day I would make something beautiful like that!
So in the winter 2015, it was time to make a bowl.
I collected all the newspapers and I bought some wallpaper paste. I had made some templates so I could make different forms and measures of bowls. It was not easy because everything was wet and slippery including me of course. It took a long time to let them dry. Then I made another layer with the same process and then another one. After a few months they all had became dry and stiff. Finally, in april 2016, I could start with the painting: the most exciting part of the process.
After 4 days of painting the first bowl was finished!
All my bowls are varnished with boat varnish so they are solid and firm. You can’t put the in the dishwasher though.

I was sitting in my garden and I saw the beautiful flowers. Most of all I was inspired by the different shades of blue of the campanula. On that day I started painting this bowl.

Sometimes life gives you a present! As I was working on this bowl there was a wizzard in it. So it is called: “The Wizzard in the Bowl”.

This was a difficult one, because the bowl was very deep and bumpy. My brush stalks were too long to get to the inside.
ca 32cm. diameter.
