Nightlights
Painting on a black canvas
When I paint my nightlights on a black canvas, I often use oils. Painting with oils feels like playing. It gives me lots of fun moments and a happy mood. I like the way you can mix and blend everything at the same time.
Although I know it isn’t very healthy, I love the smell of turpentine oil. It reminds me of the ancient shoe polish.
Most of my oil paintings where finished in only one day. I just can’t stop when the paint is still wet.
When I do a group of workshops, the first evening is always with oils and on a black canvas, because staring on a black canvas is less scary and putting on some paint is not really visible, so participants don’t have the feeling that they make mistakes. I do that to let the participants know and feel that they really can paint.
Hans Hofmann once said: In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light. He was so right.
