Painting Geometric Forms
The colours on a Geometric Abstracts really stand out well, but they only do that when the forms are balanced and in harmony. Although there are actually no rules, you still have to pay attention to the balance and the painting.
I like it to get more and more to the right equilibration. One time a line has to be removed and the other time the line has to move just a little bit, or there has to be a circle on the canvas.
You see the painting arise with every brush stroke.
I like the way the tinge always changes a little bit when you repeat the same movement on the canvas. Sometimes I use a textured background with thick gesso and sand or another medium and sometimes I leave the canvas blank and smooth.
Almost all of these paintings are painted with acrylics. Painting with acrylics means that you can take the painting wherever you want, because it dries very fast and you don’t get a mess. Sometimes this makes the process more easy. You can paint it over and over again. I like the way the tinge always changes a little bit when you repeat the same movement on the canvas.
Mostly I don’t know what the painting is going to be. I just start with a colour or two and make a movement on the canvas.
It is very important to begin with anything, just anything…
because sitting in front of a white canvas gives you a terrible feeling. Sometimes this excitement at the beginning leads to a feeling of panic. Then I know I waited too long. So I lean back and become aware of my feelings – my body. As soon as the panic has disappeared and all the thoughts are gone. I can start.
